Hello! I’m excited about starting the 2nd Reading and Language Arts class in a row. The first class I was in with Dr. Joyce Bowling was an amazing experience that provided a lot tools to help me in my future classroom. I’m looking forward to adding to the tool belt throughout this class.
The acronym that I came up with for my name is below:
E – Engagement
R – Relationships
I – Innovative
C – Curiosity
The acronyms I opted to use describe me as a person and also the teaching style I hope to use in my classroom. I feel that teachers need to be more engaged in the students for learning. By being engaged you can build positive relationships which will help drive curiosity. I’m always curious about different strategies and finding new ways to improve. My curiosity drives me to be more innovative when trying to improve myself day-by-day.
Mr. Douglas Calhoun is one of the teachers that helped me develop my love of reading and writing. He was a major help in developing my writing ability. He always encouraged me to be as creative as possible. He would tell me that the story I’m putting on paper is my world, not other peoples. He would encourage me to branch out into areas that I may not feel comfortable with to help develop my writing into new worlds I didn’t think was possible.
Mrs. Rayburn is another teacher that helped me develop my reading skills. She would challenge me by suggesting certain books that were above my reading level or outside of my comfort zone. She would also read the same book as I did as well. She would then ask high-level questions to check for my understanding as we progress through the book. She would also develop questions on a worksheet for me to answer to check for my understanding as well. this helped expand my reading interest and increase my reading level.
